Why We Exist

Good work comes from having the right people close to it. We have seen what happens when that connection gets lost. The people who lead the pitch are often not the people who end up doing the work, and over time, important context and decisions can get lost. We believe the people you meet should be the people you work with, and they should stay close to the project.

BigStep was founded in 2008 by Vidit Paliwal and Niranjan Mangal. Since then, our team has built cloud-native software products for clients around the world, with more than 700 products delivered over the years. We have grown from a small team into 180+ technology experts, but staying close to the work has remained important to us.

The work has changed quite a bit since 2008. When generative AI started changing what our clients needed, we grew with it and became an AI consulting and engineering company. Today, we work at the intersection of software and AI, with the same focus on having good people close to the work and making sure what we build is useful to the businesses and people using it.

What We Value

You can tell a lot about a team by what it does when something goes wrong. These are the four things we hold each other to, on good days and bad ones.

  1. Own the Outcome

    When something is ours, we take the responsibility for it and see it through. If something breaks at midnight, the answer should not be "that's out of scope." We also do not want to hand over work that we would not be comfortable maintaining ourselves.

    Our aim has always been to build something that works well and continues to hold up after it is delivered.

  2. Your Success Is the Scorecard

    Getting a project delivered on time is important, but it is only part of the job. What matters to us is what the work does for your business once it is out in the world.

    That is how we look at our work, and it is one reason 95% of our clients continue to work with us.

  3. Say It Straight

    Good working relationships need honest conversations. If a plan is not going to work, a deadline is slipping, or there is a simpler and less expensive way to do something, we will tell you.

    It may not always be what you want to hear, but we think it is better to have that conversation early.

  4. Keep Learning, Together

    There is always something new to learn in technology. The tools we use change quickly, and so do the ways we build software.

    Our people learn from each other through internal tech talks, hackathons and the work we do every day. We share what worked, talk about what did not, and take good questions seriously, whether they come from a junior engineer or someone who has been here for years.

Everyone brings something different to the team, but there is a lot we share too. We learn from each other, help each other when things get difficult, and take pride in the work we put in front of our clients. Over the years, that has grown into a community where people can build their careers, learn new things and do work they are proud of.

A big part of good work is simply being able to work well together. We like to keep that part easy, with clear communication, familiar faces and regular visibility into the work.
