Get the Software Built, From First Idea to Scale
You may have an idea that needs a first version, a product that has outgrown the platform it runs on, or a live video or commerce system that has to cope with real traffic. We build SaaS products, live video and streaming platforms, headless CMS and e-commerce, and every BigStep engineer uses AI coding tools every day.

Where You Start Depends on Where You Are
Most teams come to us at one of four points, from an idea with no product yet to a working product that now needs AI. What you need is different at each one.
You have an idea and no product yet
You may not know what to build first, a working version may not reach real users before the budget runs out, and the first release may not be ready for production. Our 0-to-1 Product Build programme delivers a small first release in milestones you can see, with a path to scale it.
You have a product, and it has reached its limits
The platform may not take the load, the content system may slow down every release, and the store may run on software you’ve outgrown. We rebuild or move you without stopping the business, with a headless CMS, an e-commerce replatforming or a rebuild of the system itself, each scoped on a call.
You’re building something with its own hard problems, such as live video
Real-time video may have delays, sudden spikes and thousands of people arriving at once, none of which ordinary web software has to handle. We build live video and streaming platforms, including the SDKs other apps use to add live video, with monitoring that shows when a stream is struggling.
Your product works, and now it needs AI in it
The software around the AI may need reworking first, the AI may have nowhere to live in your current system, and the AI itself may be the harder part. If it’s the AI itself, AI Product Engineering is the page for it. If it’s the software around it, we build or rework that.
A small release you can test tells you more than a long list you can’t.
What We Do
Building software well means choosing an architecture that will last, getting something real in front of users early, and leaving behind a system your own team can keep changing. Here's the work, by what you're building.
| Capability | What it covers | Where you start |
|---|---|---|
| Building a SaaS product | Design and build the whole product: architecture, web and mobile apps, APIs and the cloud setup behind them, with AI coding tools in the workflow from the first commit and a clear path to scale after launch. | 0-to-1 Product Build: 12–24 weeks, from $60K. |
| Live video and streaming | Build real-time video, streaming and live engagement platforms, including the SDKs other apps use to add live video, and the monitoring that tells you when a stream is struggling. | Scoped on the call. |
| Headless CMS | Build a new headless content system or migrate to one, so your content is edited in one place and delivered to your website and apps through an API. | Scoped on the call. |
| E-commerce platforms | Develop a e-commerce store from scratch or replatform an existing one, including moving products, customers, order history and web addresses across without losing data, and reconnecting payments and shipping. | Scoped on the call. |
| Rebuilding an older system | Replace software you've outgrown, such as an inflexible SaaS tool or an older mobile app, with a custom system your team can change, and add AI where it helps. | Scoped on the call. |
| Keeping it running after launch | Maintain, monitor and extend the product after release, with the same named engineers and in your repository, so the people who built it keep it healthy. | Scoped on the call. |
Our Software and Application Development service covers building the software. Changing how your own engineers build is AI-Native SDLC Transformation, AI features inside the product are AI Product Engineering, and designing how people use those features is AI Experience Design.
How We Build Your Software
Here are the five things we work through on a build. If you already have a team and need them to build differently, we'll say so and point you to the right page.
01 Start from the one job the product has to do
Before any code, we agree who will use it first, the one job it has to do well, and what the first release must include. A small release you can test tells you more than a long list you can't.
This decides: who the first users are · what's in the first release · what waits for later
02 Choose the architecture for where you're going
We pick the stack and cloud setup for the size you expect to reach in a year or two, so growth doesn't mean a rewrite.
This includes: stack and hosting choices · how data is stored and who can see it · what happens when usage grows tenfold
03 Build in milestones you can see
Work is split into milestones, each ending in a demo and a decision about whether to continue. You see working software early, and the budget is spent in steps you approve.
This includes: a working demo at each milestone · a go or no-go decision at each gate · a prioritised backlog
04 Use AI in the build, and check what it writes
Our engineers use AI coding tools every day, which shortens the routine work. Any code an AI tool contributes is reviewed by a named BigStep engineer before the pull request is opened, and again by your engineers in your own review process.
This includes: two reviews of AI-written code · licence and provenance scanning · an audit trail that stays with you
05 Launch, hand over, and keep going
The code is in your repository from the first commit, so handover is a walkthrough for your engineers. We write the runbook and document the architecture, and we stay on if you'd like the same engineers to keep extending it.
This includes: architecture notes and a runbook · a walkthrough for your team · an optional ongoing team
If you already have the engineers and the software, and want them to work differently with AI, the right page is AI-Native SDLC Transformation, and we'll point you there.
What We Build On
When you're deciding who will build your software, the specific tools matter, so we name them. We choose the stack that suits your product and your team, and these are the ones we've shipped with.

Fair Questions
A software development partner designs, builds and maintains software for your business, such as a SaaS product, a website platform or a mobile app, using their own engineers working alongside yours. A good one starts with what the software has to do, picks an architecture that can grow, ships in stages you can see, and leaves the code in your hands. We build SaaS products, live video and streaming platforms, headless CMS and e-commerce, with named senior engineers from the first call to the handover and the code in your repository from the first commit.
A 0-to-1 product build takes you from an idea to a first production release, so there’s no existing product to protect. Rebuilding an existing product means replacing or moving a system that people already rely on, which adds the work of keeping it running and moving the data across. The first is mostly about deciding what to build. The second is mostly about protecting what already works. Our 0-to-1 Product Build (12 to 24 weeks, from $60K) delivers a small first release in milestones, each ending in a demo and a go or no-go decision. For an existing product, we rebuild or move you without stopping the business, scoped on a call.
A headless CMS is a content system that stores and edits your content separately from the website that shows it, and delivers that content through an API. You’d move to one when the same content has to appear in more than one place, such as a website and a mobile app, or when your current system slows down every release. We build new headless content systems and migrate existing ones, scoped on a call.
Video has to arrive in real time, to a lot of people at once, on connections of very different quality. Ordinary web software can wait a second and retry. A live stream can’t, and a sudden spike of viewers can overwhelm it. That’s why live video needs its own infrastructure and monitoring, and engineers who’ve built it before. We built WebRTC and HLS infrastructure and SDKs on Mediasoup, WebSocket and Redis, with Grafana watching performance, for a media streaming and live engagement platform. We also built the stream-and-shop platform and mobile SDKs for a live shopping company.
The usual safeguards are reviewed by an engineer who understands the change, scanning for licence and provenance problems, and a record of what the AI wrote and who approved it. Our engineers use AI coding tools every day, and on client work, any code an AI tool contributes is reviewed twice: first by a named BigStep engineer before the pull request opens, then by your own engineers through your normal process. The audit trail stays with you.
If you have a team with room in its plan, a clear product and a way of shipping that works, you may not. An outside team earns its place when you can’t hire fast enough, when you need a skill your team doesn’t have, such as live video, or when you want a first version out quickly without growing headcount. A free 90-minute session with a senior engineer will tell you which side you’re on, whether or not you work with us.
It depends on the scope of the first release, but a first production version usually takes 3 to 6 months. Costs rise with the number of user types, integrations, platforms and how much traffic it has to handle on day one. Our 0-to-1 Product Build runs 12 to 24 weeks from $60K, in milestones where you approve each step before the next budget is spent. Rebuilds, headless CMS, e-commerce and live video work are scoped on a call.
