Talent, Enablement & AdvisoryAI Engineering Talent

Bring senior AI engineers into your team without the long hiring process

A senior AI engineer can take months to hire, and your roadmap won't wait. We place AI engineers, data engineers, embedded forward deployed engineers and full managed pods inside your team, working in your tools and your time zone. We can also help you build the team you'll eventually own.

Teams We've Built For

Where You Start Depends on Where You Are

Most teams come to us at one of five points, from having a roadmap and nobody to lead it to wanting an AI team you own. The right kind of help is different at each one.

  • You have an AI roadmap and nobody to lead it

There may be no AI team yet, nobody may have taken AI to production before, and a search for a lead may run for months while the roadmap waits. Our AI Engineering Pod programme arrives as a small team with its own lead, a demo every fortnight and one place to look when something slips, while our AI Team Starter Pack gives you working AI capability in about three months.

  • You have a requisition open and the work can’t wait

You may know what you’re building and have a lead who can direct it, while the team is short of hands and the hire is taking months. Our Embedded AI Engineer programme places AI and data engineers in your team, working for your lead like anyone else on it.

  • Your team can build, but nobody senior has shipped AI to production

The engineers may be capable and still lack the experience of taking AI live, what they build may stall at the demo, and nobody may be accountable for what ships. Our FDE Sprint programme embeds a senior engineer who owns the deployed system and teaches your team as it goes live.

  • Somebody built it, and now somebody has to run it

The people who built the system may have moved on, nobody inside may own it, and little may be written down. Our Embedded AI Engineer or AI Engineering Pod programme takes it over, then hands it to your team with a runbook.

  • You want the capability in-house and don’t want to rent it forever

You may not know which roles to hire, how to interview for them or what the first 90 days should look like. Our AI Practice Build-Out programme defines the roles, the interview loops, a 90-day onboarding plan and the tooling, so you hire with a plan.

What We Do

Putting AI engineers into your team comes in a few shapes, and the right one depends on what you're missing: hands, experience, an owner or a whole team. Here's what each covers.

CapabilityWhat it coversWhere you start
AI engineers and data engineersEngineers for large language model features, machine learning and AI platforms, plus data engineers for pipelines and cloud data platforms. They join your team, use your tools and take direction from your engineering lead.Embedded AI Engineer: 3–12 months, $20K–$50K a month.
A Forward Deployed EngineerA senior AI engineer embedded in your team and accountable for what ships. They build with your data and leave your team able to run what they built.FDE Sprint: 8 weeks, $40K–$100K.
A managed AI engineering podA small team with an architect, engineers, a product manager and QA, delivering as one accountable group, with a demo every fortnight. A Full Stack pod covers a product from design to deployment.AI Engineering Pod, Standard: 3-month minimum, $35K–$60K a month. Full Stack: $55K–$90K a month.
A whole AI team to startA managed team that gives you working AI capability in about three months, so a product can ship while you decide how to hire for the long term.AI Team Starter Pack: 3 months, $60K–$120K.
Building your own AI teamDefine the roles, write the hiring profiles and interview loops, plan a 90-day onboarding curriculum and choose a reference tooling stack, so you can hire and run your own team.AI Practice Build-Out: 3–4 weeks, $25K–$45K.

Our Engineering Talent service covers putting engineers into your team. Training the engineers you already have is AI Training & Capability Enablement, and deciding what to build is AI Strategy, Governance & Compliance.

How We Work

How We Put Engineers into Your Team

Here are the five things we work through. If you can hire the engineers you need in the time you have, we'll say so and leave it there.

  1. 01 Start from what you're missing

We begin by working out whether you're short of hands, of senior experience, of an owner for the system or of a whole team. The shortage decides which model fits and how many people you need.

This decides: engineer, forward deployed engineer or pod · how long you need them · who directs the work

  2. 02 You meet them before you commit

You interview the engineers with your own questions and your own process, and you can say no. Nobody joins your team without your team agreeing to it.

This includes: named engineers and their public work · your own interview · freedom to say no

  3. 03 They work inside your systems

They use your repository, your review process and your ticketing, and your engineering lead sets their work day to day. They work in your time zone around your standups and sprints. Everything they write is yours from the first commit.

This includes: your tooling and standards · your lead directing the work · code in your repository from day one

  4. 04 You control what they can reach

Access runs through your own identity provider. Engineers get what they need when they need it, you can take it away at any time, and we keep no local copies of your data.

This includes: sign-in through your identity provider · multi-factor sign-in and managed devices · access you can revoke

  5. 05 Plan for changes and for the end

If a named engineer leaves, we provide a named replacement and a paired handover, at our cost, and the notice period is written into the contract. An engagement ends with a runbook, a documented handover and a support window.

This includes: a named replacement and handover if someone leaves · a written runbook · a support window after the engagement

If the AI you need hasn't been scoped yet, or you're not sure what to build, the right page is AI Strategy, Governance & Compliance, and we'll point you there.

Fair Questions

  • An AI engineer is an individual who joins your team and works for your engineering lead, so you decide what they do and you own the outcome. A Forward Deployed Engineer is a senior engineer embedded in your environment who’s accountable for the system working in production. A managed pod is a small team, usually an architect, engineers, a product manager and QA, that delivers a defined scope as one unit. We place all three, as an Embedded AI Engineer, an FDE Sprint and an AI Engineering Pod, so the choice depends on whether you’re missing hands, experience or a whole team.

  • A contractor or an augmented engineer fills a gap in capacity, and you manage them. A Forward Deployed Engineer is meant to own the result: a working system in production, built with your data. Some firms use the title for ordinary hourly staffing, so it’s worth asking what the engineer is accountable for. Our FDE Sprint (8 weeks) is scoped around a deployed system and a handover to your team.

  • It depends on how long you need the capability and how fast you need it. Hiring costs a salary plus the months it takes to find someone, and the cost of a wrong hire. An outside team costs more per month and starts sooner, and it ends when you decide it does. Our free 90-minute session ends with a view of whether to hire, embed or train for your roles, and what each would cost over two years.

  • Most of it is priced monthly, because you’re paying for people’s time. An Embedded AI Engineer, for AI or data engineering work, is $20K to $50K a month for 3 to 12 months. A forward deployed engineer in our FDE Sprint is $40K to $100K over 8 weeks. A managed AI Engineering Pod starts at $35K to $60K a month on a 3-month minimum, or $55K to $90K a month for a Full Stack pod that covers a product from design to deployment. Our AI Team Starter Pack, a whole managed team for 3 months, is $60K to $120K.

  • The vendor should replace them without you carrying the cost, and the terms should be written down at the start. If a named engineer of ours moves on, we provide a named replacement and a paired handover at our cost, and the notice period is written into the contract.

  • Yes, and that’s a common reason to bring one in. The usual approach is to start with embedded engineers, learn what roles and pay you need, and then hire. Our AI Practice Build-Out (3 to 4 weeks, $25K to $45K) defines the roles, hiring profiles, interview loops, a 90-day onboarding plan and a reference tooling stack, so you can hire with a plan and run the team yourself. If you need a product shipped while you hire, the AI Team Starter Pack gives you working capability in about three months.

  • If you can hire the engineers you need in the time you have, and you already have a senior person who can direct the work, you probably don’t. An outside engineer works best when someone inside can scope and review the work, so a team with no AI lead is usually better served by a pod or a forward deployed engineer than by one engineer. If the real gap is knowing what to build, advice comes first, and that’s where our AI Strategy, Governance & Compliance work starts.
